If you’re traveling from Apple Valley, Adelanto or Victorville to a neighboring airport this summer with your pet, there are some things you’ll want to do before hiring shuttle transportation service. The first is to ask if the shuttle is equipped to handle pets. The next is to inquire about any extra fees involved with transporting dogs and cats to and from LAX, ONT, SNA, and LGB. Once you’ve confirmed that the shuttle service does accept animals as passengers, you’ll need to prepare for you and your pet’s journey to the airport.
Here’s how you do it:
- Make sure to visit your pet’s veterinarian prior to traveling. Let them know your intentions, the destination, and duration of your visit, and make sure that all shots are up-to-date. Ask for documentation of your pet’s health to carry with you on the flight and to the city, state or country you plan to stay in. If your pet hasn’t been microchipped and nationally registered, now is the time to make that happen.
- Have tags on your pet stating the immunizations that they’ve had as well as identification. You want to include your pet’s name, your name, and phone number on the tags. In the event your dog or cat bolts, you’ll have a much easier time finding them due to tags that they wear.
- Carry comfort items from home. Like you, your dog and cat have creature comforts. Bring permitted items with you to make traveling easier on your pet. A favorite toy and blanket should top the list along with food and water for your dog or cat. Also, make sure to bring along any medications they might need to stay healthy while traveling.
- Make sure to follow airport regulations for pet travel. You’ll likely be required to place your pet in a pet carrier. If you have questions about traveling with our dog or cat, call the airline and ask for recommendations. You’ll find the advice valuable especially if you plan to travel with your pets regularly.
